Maison Theresa
- Description
- Maison" Theresa is an attractive country house, set in approximately 4 acres of grounds and built in the traditional colombage (Tudor) style of Normandy. The property is thought to have originally been a number of farm workers cottages which were converted into the present format in the 1930's. It was modernised in 1985 and underwent further renovation in 2001, both retaining many of the original features.
The grounds of the property extend to approx. 4 acres, divided into three diversified areas. Nearest to the house is the outside dining area with a wisteria covered stone table and gas BBQ, ideal for the hot summer evenings. This overlooks the 10m x 5m heated swimming pool and sun lounger area with a rose covered half rosary in the Grecian style.
Beyond this one cannot miss the 3 dog kennels, preserved as part of the original features of the property. Walking from the bottom end of the pool area, and opposite this is a summer house. Crossing the small river bridge you can recline in wicker chairs and enjoy a cold bottle of wine or relax with a good book.
Continuing past the summer house you will cross the pond into the orchard, with apples, cherries and other soft fruits.
The property offers a superb base for a large party looking for a sophisticated environment and quality accommodation, sleeping up to 14, whilst being the ideal "fairy tale" location for the large family with children of all ages.
The main house comprises of a lounge (with Satellite Television), reading room/bar, dining room, fully equipped kitchen and servery, laundry and games room - equipped with a half-size snooker table.
The kitchen is fully equipped for the preparation of international cuisine for large parties, providing a breakfast bar for an informal family breakfast while watching the BBC news on satellite TV.
The accommodation in the main house, which is furnished to an exceptionally high standard, comprises 5 bedrooms (2 double and 3 twin) all with en-suite facilities.
The Master bedroom on the ground floor is suitable for use by disabled persons. The bath has hand rails to facilitate access by persons with restricted mobility.
In addition to the main house there is a self-contained apartment which is only available to those hiring the main house.
This comprises 2 bedrooms (1 double & 1 twin) with share facilities. There is a fully equipped "American" kitchen with dishwasher, fridge and freezer together with a lounge/dining area and Sat. TV/ Video player. - Other facilities

- The village of Bourth, 10 minutes walk from the house, lies on the river Iton midway between the towns of L'Aigle and Verneuil (10 minutes drive) on the border of the departments of L'Eure and Orne. Although the population is less than 1,000 it is well served with 2 bakers, a butchers, a general store and 2 hairdressers. It also has a hotel, Le Cheval Blanc, a Creperie - great pizzas and cheap wine - and one of the best resturants in the area, the Auberge Chantecler, a "Tabac" bar, newsagents and post office.
The village of Bourth is situated in rural south-east Normandy just over an hours drive from Caen and Paris and 90 minutes from Disneyland Paris. The historic cities of Rouen, Chartres and Lisieux are all within easy reach as are the towns of Falaise - birth place of William the Conquerer - Alencon and Le Mans.
